Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I get a facial treatment?
The frequency of facials depends on your skin type, concerns, and lifestyle. For maintenance of healthy skin, we recommend a facial every 4 to 6 weeks. This allows your skin to restore and hydrate. Deep pore cleansing and exfoliation also helps to address any issues like acne or hyperpigmentation.
Is waxing better than shaving, and how can I prevent irritation and pain?
Waxing provides longer lasting results compared to shaving. By waxing the hair is pulled from the root, resulting in smoother skin. Waxing also reduces the risk of ingrown hair.

To prevent irritation from waxing, it’s important to exfoliate before appointments and use soothing products after waxing. Also, to prevent irritation after waxing, avoid sun exposure, sweat, intense activities, tanning beds, and exfoliating products.

How can I prevent and treat acne scars and hyperpigmentation?
To prevent and treat acne scars and hyperpigmentation always wear SPF. Use products that contain ingredients like Retinol, Vitamin C, and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) to promote cell turnover to lighten and brighten those areas.

Have a consistent skincare routine at home to get optimal results. Professional treatments like chemical peels or microdermabrasion will significantly lighten hyperpigmentation.

Do I need to wear sunscreen even when indoors or cloudy outside?
Yes, you absolutely need to wear at least an SPF 30. UVA and UVB will penetrate the windows and your SPF will protect your skin from free radicals. Sun exposure of any type can damage the skin leading to aging, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and acne.
What is the difference between a facial and a chemical peel?
A facial is multi-step treatment that involves deep cleansing, exfoliating, and hydration to address concerns such as acne, dryness, or dullness. The products used in the facial are gentle with mild exfoliants to work on the surface layer of the skin.

A chemical peel uses a stronger acid solution to exfoliate and penetrate deeper into the skin which results in peeling.

Chemical peels are more potent, so they are perfect for addressing more stubborn skin issues like hyperpigmentation, scars, and fine lines. After the peeling is finished your skin will reveal a younger, fresher look.

What should I avoid after a spa treatment like a chemical peel or a facial treatment?
For a facial, it will be important to avoid things like the sun, extreme heat, sweat, tanning beds, hot showers, and any exfoliating or anti-aging dermatologic topical medicine for at least three (3) days. This will reduce irritation. After a chemical peel you will want to avoid all the above as well, but for 7 to 10 days.
